Open Division will start at 7:30 a.m.

     Notes:

  • Participants are responsible for verifying that the information presented on the label on their race packet is accurate.   Corrections should be brought to the attention of race packet pick up staff at the time of packet pick up or race morning.
  • You can have another individual pick up your Participant Packet:  1) Download and complete the Packet Authorization Form (this will be turned in at packet pick up)   2) Advise the person picking up the packet that they must present their ID which will be verified as the person you authorized on the Packet Authorization Form

If "WAIVER" is indicated by your name on the Bib List your waiver was still unsigned as of the date listed.  You can either (1) log in to your registration online and sign electronically (2) download the Waiver Form above, print and sign, and turn it in when your packet is picked up (3) or we will have forms available for your to sign when you pick up your packet.   Please include your name and bib number on the waiver form but no other information is required.

Course Info
The scenic, single-loop course will take you from the Venice Airport Festival Grounds, through neighborhoods, along the beach-front road, into Caspersen Beach Park and returning along the Venetian Waterway Trail to the Festival Grounds. 

Three aid stations on the course: at approximately mile 2 on Airport Ave, mile 3.7 (entrance to Caspersen Beach Park) and mile 5 (on the Venetian Waterway Trail) with volunteers from Marine Corps League Det #643 and the Venice Area Young Professionals. Water will be available at mile 2 and 5. Water and lemon-lime Gatorade will be served at mile 3.7.

     Notes:
     You do not run on the beach or over the terrain of the Festival Grounds. You will start and finish on an old closed runway and

     taxiway, transition to and from the Festival Grounds via a crushed shell road and parking lot. A loop through Caspersen Beach

     Park is a packed "jeep" trail.  Otherwise, you will be on paved roads or the concrete path of the Venetian Waterway Trail.

  • Finish line closes at 9:35 a.m.
  • You must be able to complete the 6.2 mile course maintaining approximately 17 min/mile  
  • No pets are allowed on the Festival Grounds

Directions to Venice Airport Festival Grounds
Arriving by bicycle or on foot:  Continue along the Venetian Waterway Trail, beyond the Festival Grounds main gates, use the bicycle/pedestrian gate approximately 1/4 mile beyond the Airport Avenue parking lot trailhead  (distance presently unverified)  Bike racks are conveniently located on the Festival Grounds inside this gate!
**Be sure to take Business US 41 onto the Isle of Venice and follow the signs for the Festival Grounds**
For your mobile device, Google Maps, or GPS use "Approach Trail Venice Airport, Venice FL" or "600 Airport Ave E, Venice FL" to get you in the vicinity.  

     I-75 from the south: 

  1. Exit 193/Jacaranda Blvd, left at Jacaranda Blvd,
  2. Right at Center Rd, across By-Pass US 41 (little zig-zag)
  3. Right on Business US 41 northbound
  4. Follow the directions "US-41 from the south"


     I-75 from the north: 

  1. Exit 200/FL 681 S to US 41 southbound
  2. Follow directions "US-41 from the north"


     US-41 from the north:

  1. Follow Tamiami Trail/US-41 South
  2. At the US 41/Bypass 41 intersection, stay right on Business US 41 to go over bridge onto Venice Island
  3. Turn Right at Ave Del Circo
  4. Turn Left at Airport Ave E
  5. Proceed beyond "dead end" sign to entrance of Venice Airport Festival Grounds


     US-41 from the south:

  1. Follow Tamiami Trail/US-41 North
  2. At the US 41/Bypass 41 intersection, stay left on Business US 41 to go over
  3. Circus Bridge onto Venice Island
  4. Turn left at Ave Del Circo
  5. Turn left at Airport Ave E
  6. Proceed beyond "dead end" sign to entrance of Venice Airport Festival Grounds 


Parking
There is plenty of parking on site. If you plan on leaving prior to 9:40 a.m., please use caution and yield to give priority to the runners and walkers who may still be inbound to finish their Shark's Tooth 10K.

Awards
Categories and Age Groups:  Overall male/female; Youth (14 & under) male/female; Masters male/female; Grand Masters male/female; Sr. Grand Masters male/female; and Veteran Grand Master male/female, plus male/female 3-deep age group awards in 12 & under, 13 & 14, 15-19, ...then 5 year age groups to 80-84, plus 85 & over.
Overall Walker Category Awards: 3-Deep for male and female Walkers
 
Shark's Tooth 10K will be chip timed; however, per USATF rules, overall awards (Overall, Youth, Master, Grand Master, Sr. Grand Master, and Veteran Grand Master) and the Walker category awards will be based on gun time.   Age groups awards will be based on chip/net time.


 Walker Category Participation & Awards
The Walker Category is for participants who will be competing as a Walker and walk the entire 10K.  Although this will not be a judged race walk, competing in the Walking Category requires one foot to be in contact with the ground at all times (i.e. "no lifting".)  There will be monitors on the course and running or jogging will be the basis for disqualification.  Walkers will start approximately five minutes after the open field. 

If you would like to walk some of the Shark's Tooth 10K and still jog or run some, please register for the "Open Division" Shark's Tooth 10K and feel free to run, jog or walk. DO NOT register as a Walker respecting those who will compete by fitness walking, power walking, speed walking, race walking, etc. 

If you intend to run, jog, and/or walk but would like to accompany someone competing as a Walker, register in the open division and you can delay your start to accompany the Walking Participant.

Walking Category Participants must start with the Walkers, approximately five minutes after the open start; starting early is another basis for disqualification.   If you register as a Walker and decide you would like to run or jog, or you register in the open division and decide you would like to compete as a Walker, please contact us to change your registration category. Volunteer Opportunities
Have family or friends running or just want to help out?  Be a course monitor (direct the runners), help at the start/finish line or at the post race party.  Just for being part of the team, you'll get a custom volunteer t-shirt and no matter where you're volunteering, when your job is finished, you're invited to join us at the post race party! Shark's Tooth 10K Race Information
The Ninth annual Shark's Tooth 10K will be on Saturday, March 3, 2018 at the Venice Airport Festival Grounds in the Shark's Tooth Captial of the World.
